ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Review

Our ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 review discusses how this little device has set the standard for affordable robot vacuums that include smart phone control. It’s this combination of Wi-Fi connectivity, solid cleaning performance, and a reasonable price that are bringing many first time robot vacuum owners into the market for the first time.ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 reviewINCLUDED WITH THE DEEBOT N79: instruction manual; remote control w/ batteries; 2 sponge filters; 2 high efficiency filters; 4 side brushes; power adapter; docking station; & 1 Year Warranty

**NOTE** With the release of the DEEBOT N79s, it’s likely that the N79 will be decommissioned in the near future. If you don’t see a link listed for it above then be sure to check out the N79s.

ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Review – Cleaning

The DEEBOT N79 and N79s bot use a V-style brush that effectively grabs pet hair and sweeps debris into its suction tube. Vacuum performance gets mixed reviews and can be inconsistent compared to other models in this price range. However, for the price and the features it’s performance is a bargain at this price.

It uses twin side brushes that are great at catching dust bunnies that gather along base boards. If you have heavy pet hair issues, removing and cleaning all of these brushes regularly is a must for top performance. But that’s really a breeze. Suction strength is consistent with most robot vacuums at around 1000 Pascal Units and the noise level isn’t overpowering at all.

The DEEBOT N79 has an AUTO button on top and a power button on the side. They also have four cleaning modes controllable with the remote as well as the DEEBOT app: Auto, Spot, Single Room and Edge. For a brief summary of what these modes do check out our Robot Vacuum Basics page.

The DEEBOT N79 is not recommended for high or dark carpets. Higher carpets tend to slow the robot vacuum down, while darker carpets can confuse its infrared sensors.

The dustbin is smaller than average at 300 ml (10 ounces). Emptying it will be a regular duty, especially when a lot of pet hair is around. It also uses an air filtration system that combines a sponge and high efficiency filter. They trap finer particles and prevent them from circulating back into the air.

The DEEBOT N79 has a run time of up to 100 minutes on a single charge, weighs 6.7 lbs, and has a height of 3.1 inches. Maintenance is pretty simple. Buttons release the brush cover and side brushes and the included tool can be used for removing tangles.

ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Review – Navigation

Using what ECOVACS calls Smart Motion Navigation the DEEBOT N79 is really good at avoiding obstacles. You won’t need to worry about it falling down steps, although it might sneak outside if you leave the front door open. The little bot so rarely gets stuck you might feel a little sorry for it when it starts beeping for you to come to its rescue.

The random paths it takes around floors makes it slower and less efficient than higher priced robot vacuums. In larger rooms or open floor plans it might run through the battery charge without hitting every spot, which can drive even the slightest OCD batty.

The DEEBOT will then return safely home to take a few hours to recharge. However, only the higher priced robot vacuums have the technology to return to where they left off to finish a cleaning session. The DEEBOT N79 will start a brand new cleaning pattern after it recharges.

Ecovacs App

The remote control has a nice size LCD screen. You can easily set a cleaning schedule and choose cleaning modes. Scheduling is about as much fun as figuring out how to change the time on your car stereo. The interface of the DEEBOT app is just much more user friendly.

Similar Priced Vacuums

What separates the DEEBOT N79 apart from similar robot vacuums in the same price range certainly isn’t its performance. The navigation is great. But as we previously mentioned, their vacuuming is about the same as other models in this price range.

The DEEBOT’s popularity can really only be explained by having smartphone control at budget friendly prices. In fact it’s around $100 less that the next Wi-Fi connected robot vacuum.

The ECOVACS app is available for both Android and Apple and gets mixed reviews. Developers are always fine tuning apps and this one is certainly no exception. It does require a 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi band to communicate with the robot vacuum.

ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Review – Summary

The DEEBOT N79 performs as well as similar priced robot vacuums when it comes to vacuuming. The addition of app control really puts it over the top as a good value for smaller homes with low carpet and bare floors. It will keep your home looking and feeling cleaner and reduce the amount of dust in your air. If your needs include heavy amounts of pet hair and a lot of square footage you would be get better value for your money by spending a little more.
